What a difference an hour and a half can make! T What a difference an hour and a half can make!

The loft is finally carpeted with some lovely 100% wool from @carpetright_uk and it finally feels like a real room. Just a few snagging bits to sort (doors, touch up paint, etc.) and it’ll be time to furnish - man… I never thought we’d get there!

Loft staircase: we’ve been spending this first w Loft staircase: we’ve been spending this first week of the year tackling the long awaited staircase! It’s pretty slow going, since we’re learning as we go, but the first run at the top of the stairs is in!

The lower section is currently on the go, but it’s a real head scratcher in terms of spindle spacing and angles (not to mention nothing in our house being level/square). Wish us luck!!

Look how far we’ve come! We started our brick r Look how far we’ve come!

We started our brick repointing journey waaay back in March when we brought in a team to remove the pebbledash. They quickly discovered that all our red bricks needed to be replaced and subsequently gave up. So we brought in a new team who replaced all the corners, cleaned up the remaining bricks, repointed everything and then covered the damaged plinth in fresh lime render.

There’s still a lot left to do (see stories) but most of it will have to wait until spring. In the meantime, I’m just excited for all the extra light we’ve got inside again!

So close to the finish line… There are a number So close to the finish line…

There are a number of little niggly bits to sort out and then it’s basically time to dress the space with artwork/mirrors/plants! Check out stories for more details and to see some of the places where the builders got things wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️.

🤞🏻it won’t look like this for very long! 🤞🏻it won’t look like this for very long!

The loft scaffolding finally came down today (it’s not 100% done, but we no longer require the scaffolding). We’ll enjoy how much brighter our rooms are for a little while - we’ll be getting new scaffolding put up in the next week. Hopefully our third scaffolding will be the charm, and this house will start looking all fresh and new before long!

Exciting things are finally happening! Again! In Exciting things are finally happening! Again!

In case you missed it, we had our pebbledash removed way back in February. They uncovered huge damage to the red bricks on the front of our house and the original team just weren’t cut out to tackle the works. It took a while to find a new brick crew willing to do the job, and then we had to wait for the majority of the loft to be done first. Buuut… the new crew have just started removing and replacing all the red bricks and it’s so amazing to finally see progress!!!

Loft conversion... yeeesh, where to begin? It’s Loft conversion... yeeesh, where to begin? It’s definitely been a trying experience and we’re only half done (or so it feels).

Working with builders has officially solidified my love of DIY... no one will ever care as much about your home as you do. There are things we’ll have to redo and stuff we’re taking on that they were meant to do. I just want a finish that I’m happy with, and sometimes that means doing it yourself.

All that’s left is the plumbing second fix and the rest is on us. But before they can install all that stuff we need to learn how to tile... how hard can it be?

This recipe is for lactation cookies - yup, you read that correctly. But give them a chance! These hearty cookies are good for anyone, not just the new moms out there. They’re also a great excuse to use up all those random opened packs of nuts/seeds/dried fruit.

Why not celebrate the start of March with a batch of cookies?!

It’s not secret that I am incredibly proud of th It’s not secret that I am incredibly proud of this strange DIY project 😂 I tell everyone who will listen about my secret cat door.

Well, if you want to make your own I have written an entire blog post about the process! Send me your secret cat flap questions and I will be so beside myself happy to oblige. Let’s form a secret cat door club, alright?

Tough decisions ahead... After the team removed m Tough decisions ahead...

After the team removed most of the pebbledash from the side of the house (looking good), they moved on to the front. And then the problems started cropping up. I watched as they worked slowly and looked concerned... fearing the worst. Which pretty much happened.

Almost all of the red bricks up the sides of our property would need to be replaced and many more. Like 500 bricks at least. All the bricks under our bay window are shot, and this project has suddenly hit its breaking point.

We now have to decide if we almost double down money wise to fix it properly, or just render over the brick again.

Honestly, we’re both so gutted it’s hard to even talk about.
